Check Before You Call For Air Conditioning or Heating Repair

Are the circuit breakers tripped?
To check if the circuit breakers are tripped, turn off the system at the thermostat. Next, turn each circuit breaker to the OFF position. Finally, turn each circuit breaker to the ON position.

Are the filters clean?
Dirty filters can restrict airflow and are the number one reason for inefficiency. Replace or clean your filters on a regular basis.

Are the controls set correctly?
Thermostat: Check the thermostat to make sure it is on either COOL or HEAT. The fan switch should be on AUTO. Set the thermostat to the desired temperature.

Humidistat: The humidistat should be set at 0% or ON when the space is occupied. When the space is unoccupied, the humidistat should be set below 60%.

If you have digital controls, are the batteries good?
Replace the batteries on digital controls if you suspect they might be bad.

Is the condensation pan and drain line clear?
Since 2003 it has been required by code to have a safety switch installed on A/C air handlers to shut down the system in the event of a blocked condensate line. First Call Services will check and clear your condensation pan and drain line twice a year with our standard maintenance agreement. If you prefer to do this yourself, we will show you how at your appointment.

Is the disconnect okay?
Check the disconnect to make sure the fuses are good. If one fuse is bad, replace both of them. If you are not comfortable working with electricity for this step, please call First Call Services at (954) 561-6749 instead.
